About Us

Upon graduating from The Dwight School in New York City, Mayan Axelrod went on to study Liberal Arts at both Syracuse University and Purchase College. After college, he decided to go into his family’s clothing business, concentrating primarily on sales & marketing. He worked with his family for several years, while knowing that his true passion was not in the garment business, but in culinary arts. Growing up in Manhattan, Mayan developed his love of food and various types of cuisine through the diversity of restaurants that only New York can offer.

Wanting to learn the business first hand, Mayan worked in various restaurants learning how both “the front” and “the back of the house” operated. During this time, he realized that he needed to follow his true passion and enrolled in a full program of French Culinary Techniques taught at The New School. After graduating from that program, he continued on to another Professional Master Catering Course where he graduated with honors in 2001. Mayan Woods Catering was started soon after and Mayan’s first professional catering experience was for a friend’s bridal shower. The success of that first event allowed him to see a productive future in the catering business.
